Guest Post: Barbara-Anne

I have followed RinkaDink for about 5 years. I always thought if we were lucky enough to become pregnant and have our miracle baby I was definitely booking a newborn shoot as I just love the simplicity and innocence of RinkaDink’s work. We wanted to capture memories and celebrate our miracle babies - I know, I know it's completely cliche! In life I have always set myself goals - babies were never a goal, they were a bonus and a blessing to our life.

I wasn't nervous at all about our shoot, just super excited because the day had finally came to actually have our very own RinkaDink shoot done with our own very tiny people in the pictures!

Janine and Lindsay handled our children like they owned them. Seriously, every day we beam with pride when we look across the room to their three little cots and the girls shared that pride with us that day and equalled the excitement that we have when we look at them.

On finding out about being pregnant with three!

We were completely overwhelmed when we found out about the pregnancy as we had waited so long for this moment. Extreme excitement and a tincy bit scared…

We put two eggs back in at our transfer, one of those became Freddy and the second split becoming Lexy and Charly. The girls are identical. I had a fantastic pregnancy because I was just so thankful to experience it. I had extreme nausea and sickness but you just got on as all I wanted to do was help them grow.

When we were told the girls had developed twin to twin transfusion there was a possibility we would lose one, two or all three of the babies if it progressed. Thankfully our guardian angel (my daddy) looked after them. I lost my daddy suddenly when I was 23 weeks pregnant and I took really unwell because of the shock. The babies stopped growing but then miraculously from 25 weeks they began to thrive!

The ultimate high of the pregnancy was feeling them move for the very first time and every day from then. Sometimes all three moved at once - it was like something out of a horror film but the most exhilarating experience!

On all the gear needed to be a Ninja Mama!

We have a very large change bag, the ninja bus to fit the ninja chariot in the boot and the three little ninja car seats. When I'm on my own with them I don't get time to wind them all fully so I bought a Babocush chair to help with reflux. Oh, and a pair of Leopard print Nike Air Max - a cool set of ninjas need a cool mum :)

Seriously, you need a license for the pram itself. I knocked down a child in Primark with the ninja chariot on the first shopping trip!

We know no different so this is the norm for us. Being organised and relaxed for me is key to success! I went on my first shopping trip with the ninjas and their Nanna. A partner in crime is essential for all public appearances with the ninjas either to help or to answer the 20 million questions - “Triplets?”, “Are they all yours?”, “Was it natural??”, or to help with the 2pm feed in mothercare because you were never making it home in time!

On their wee personalities

Freddy is just such a chilled wee man, today he fell asleep when he was getting his 8 week assessment at the doctor’s. Charly is the boss lady. She is going to be the ringleader of all the badness. Lexy is just little Lexy Lou wrapping her Mum and Dad already around her little midget fingers. (We can confirm that even though we only knew them for a few hours, these statements are 100% true!).

We try and lie them all together at least once a day when they are alert as they like to touch each other and stare. Freddy and Charly snuggle close together and suck each other's nose or heads. Even when they are upset if you lie them beside each other they stop and seem to soothe each other.

We don't want to wish their lives away but we both cannot wait for the house to be filled with so much laughter from them cracking each other up. Or watch to see what their little personalities are. I tagged Lyle in a FaceBook post the other day and it was a wife left a note for her husband at the front door along with a nerf gun saying loser makes dinner - I was like Girls Vs Boys - bring it on!!

Ah we just love this wee family to pieces. When Lindsay and I were in the NewbCube with Barbara-Anne, each snuggling a baby, I asked her was she not exhausted? Because she looked so fresh and totally radiant! Her reply was one of my most favourite things I’ve ever heard. She said she just spends all day being so excited about everything that she absolutely exhausts herself. She started listing all the things that she was excited about and they were just her entire life - new pram, RinkaDink shoot, taking her babies for a walk, getting out to the shop with the Ninjas…Barbara-Anne and Lyle's gratitude for this gift they've been given is totally infectious and makes them people you just want to be around all the time. This is an actual phrase we use in RinkaDink now - “I want to get Barbara-Anne level excited about this project!”.

Thanks tiny Ninjas for making your first shoot at RinkaDink so very easy on Lindsay and I, for giving the best snuggles EVER and giving us new life goals :) Thanks Barbara-Anne for sharing your amazing story with us and bringing your precious little miracles to us in their very first days at home. We cannot wait to see you all again!
