Neurodivergence and Family Photography

This is Will. He is RinkaDink’s original muse. Our entire photography studio was designed and built to accommodate his unique neurodivergent needs. ⁣Here are a few things that make our family photography studio different:

  1. RinkaDink has room to run! It couldn’t ever be a space where he had to be still. Bursts of running around the bed regulated him when he needed it.⁣

  2. We don’t use studio lights, so kids don’t need to be in one particular spot to be photographed. Our big windows stretch all the light we need across the entire space.⁣

  3. All of our props are ‘Moving in Place’ props. We have the bed, of course (the first prop we bought!). That’s because it was the easiest place to photograph Will at home; he would bounce until he didn’t need to, and I took photos of him between the bouncing. It’s the best prop for kids who just can’t be still. ⁣

  4. We have all kinds of boxes for climbing, standing and jumping. Crates to climb into. We have steps for getting higher and looking out the big windows. Different kinds of kid-size seats so they can choose their own that looks the most interesting to them. ⁣

  5. We have the wobbleboard. It can be flipped either way and used as a slide or a balance board. Kids pretend to be surfers or captains of their own little wooden boats. Always moving, always playing but in beautiful light that allows us to capture them just as they are.⁣

Don’t ever worry about your child being unable to sit still for family photos. At RinkaDink, they don’t need to! And if you have any special requests that will help your little one enjoy themselves more, just let us know when you are booking.

Room to run. And jump. And play. Sitting still is very overrated ;)
